It is with great sadness that the Trustees of Swaziland Schools Projects (SSP) announce the passing of Father John after a short illness. John was the founder and driving force behind SSP, the charity that promotes education in Swaziland - a country and people that John loved with a passion. He first went to Swaziland in the 1960s, when he was the minister in charge at All Saints Church in the capital Mbabane. It was there that he met his great friend Jack Dobson OBE and it was in the 1990s that they decided the celebrate the millennium by doing something a bit special - John raised the money in the UK and Jack built two classrooms at Forbes Reef School in Swaziland. It was from that first project that SSP evolved and for many years John was Chairman, leading the charity in his usual enthusiastic and humourous style. He stepped down as Chairman in 2014 but continued to play an active role as Vice Chairman and Life Vice President. Through John's vision, thousands of Swazi children and adults have been helped to get an education and because of him have gone on to escape poverty and stay healthy. We will miss him greatly.
